September 2nd, 2008:

Today marks the first day of the new 2008-2009 school year. Many new cadets have joined in the program. Hopefully with the effort and support from the senior cadets, these cadets will have the potential and leadership skills to be a part of Serra high school's battalion as future officers.

September 13th, 2008:

More than 40 cadets volunteered at the San Diego Padre's Home Park, Petco Park. The cadets managed the entrance gates such as Gas Lamp, K-Street, and Balboa Park handing out the giveaways for that day. The giveaway today was a Padre's 6 Pack Cooler Bag (pictured below), it can also be utilized as a lunch bag to keep food warm or cold. Not only did the cadets help raise money for the battalion which go toward the annual awards banquet and other activities they also earned 6 community service hours which are necessary for high school graduation. The cadets also only need 2 more community service events to qualify for the community service ribbon! Great job and great turn out cadets!

Approximately 30 cadets met up at the school around 5 in the morning and a bus arrived taking them to Mission Beach.     The day the cadets have all been waiting for is now. Today was an NJROTC Pre-Regional Qualifier hosted at UCLA. The competition took place within UCLA's field know as the Rose Bowl. A pre-regional qualifier is a drill, academic, and athletic competition. Cadets participate in an inspection, armed and unarmed basic, armed and unarmed exhibition, various athletic events, and an academic test. With only a few weeks of practice, and a team full of new faces, the cadets still did great. Serra placed 1st in both the athletic runs, 16 x 100 and 8 x 200, 2nd place unarmed exhibition, 4th place academics, 2nd place overall drill, and 2nd place overall athletics. For more results visit the respective team's page. Overall Serra placed 2nd, getting beat by Mar Vista from Imperial Beach and beating Troy High School.
