2007
Its that time of year again . . . as we move down the home
stretch, the end of the school year is in sight. There are a variety
of activities students are involved with here at Serra. Along with
their regular school work and home work, students may be involved
in club or athletic activities, drama and/or music productions,
prom and graduation. Time flies when youre having so much
fun. Its important that we are persistent with our students
in order to support them and encourage them to continue working
hard, complete the course requirements, and ensure they finish the
school year strong.
This year Serra High School is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary.
The students, staff and community have been celebrating Thirty Years
of Excellence all year long. Serra students first graced the halls
and classrooms of SHS back in 1977. For the past thirty years the
students have contributed to the academic excellence, spirit and
tradition that make Serra High School the excellent institution
it is today.
Spring Showcase was a huge success! Thanks need to go to the PTSA
parents who were instrumental in putting this years showcase
together. In addition, I would like to thank Mr. Madden, Ms. Howell,
Mr. Thomas and Mr. Schmidt for their involvement as well. Showcase
is a time to recognize the students efforts and work. We had
a very good turnout, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and
relish in the students accomplishments.
The Foundation Dinner Auction was held on the 28th of April. This
year, the auction took place in Tierrasanta at the Chinese Community
Church. The theme for the auction was Saturday Night Fever. I again
want to thank Mr. Murray and the foundation parents for all their
time and efforts. Without them, this monumental task would not have
been possible. I also want to thank all the parents for their support
at the auction. The proceeds raised by the parents at the auction
will be used to support Serras numerous programs and the school
site in general.
Graduation is approximately four weeks away. In a very short time,
the class of 2007 will be receiving their diplomas. Graduation is
an extremely important time in the lives of the students, parents
and staff. Parents, please make certain you continue to support
your students in order to ensure they complete all the necessary
requirements needed to graduate, participate in the commencement
exercises, and make the best decisions for themselves and their
future. Our students will be moving on to the next phase of their
lives, and we want to make certain they are prepared and off to
a good start.
As we come closer to the end of the school year, I want to encourage
all parents to keep in constant contact with teachers regarding
their students progress. We need to be certain we all work
together - students, staff, parents and community - and communicate
constantly in order to attain the goals set for our students.
Spring is here, and its my favorite time of year. There are
a number of activities, community meetings, athletic events and
night time events to visit and/or celebrate our students achievements
and success. I invite you all to come and support our students and
be a part of our continued commitment to the spirit, traditions
and excellence of Serra High School.
