Spring brings
hope of good weather, spring flowers and summer crops. At Serra
High School, students are working hard to finish the year and the
requirements of the courses they are taking. The bustle of activity
associated with schoolwork, clubs, sports, proms and graduation
can cause time to fly by. So, the message to you is to be sure to
pause occasionally to appreciate all the beautiful wonders that
occur only in the springtime!
I would like to extend a very special thank you to the parents and
community members, teachers and students who have recently joined
us on campus for our third annual Spring Showcase, which took place
on April 20th. It was an exceptional evening with a large turnout,
and truly a Showcase of the best that Serra has to offer.
Another strong show of support was this years
Foundation Dinner Auction that was held on March 25th. We are grateful
to all who worked tirelessly to put on the Serra Safari
and raised substantial funds in support of our academic and athletic
programs. Asante sana! (Swahili for thank you very much!)
The academic year is going by at a rapid pace. In a few short weeks
we will see our Class of 2006 graduate! Graduation is a most wonderful
and significant event in the life of a high school student. In many
ways it is the most significant event in public education. Many
challenges and opportunities have to be met successfully in order
for these students to comply with graduation requirements. Graduation
and the earning of the high school diploma places students on the
threshold of opportunity, on the threshold of the American Dream!
I am so proud of our students in the Class of 06. I know you
are too!
As we move forward, please stay in contact with teachers about your
childs progress. Student success is achieved when responsibility
is accepted with integrity and purpose. If we all work together
and communicate effectively, our individual and school community
goals can be attained. Once again, we encourage you to join us as
often as your schedule permits at our various parent/community meetings
and/or as a spectator at our many wonderful athletic or music/drama
activities. We invite you to support us in keeping Serra Pride
alive and well.
Looking at the school calendar, spring is a busy time of the year.
With longer days and warmer nights, it is sometimes hard to keep
our students focused on the work of school. Please help us keep
School at the top of your students job description.
Happy Spring! As always, many thanks for the many, many ways you
support our staff, programs, and school community.
Best Wishes,
Donna Somerville, Principal
