February 2006

It’s hard to believe that we are already going into the second semester this year. We have many exciting events coming up over the next few months and I ask that you continue to keep up to date by checking our weekly activities calendar on our school web site to be sure you don’t miss any important events or dates.

As we begin semester two we are already starting our preparations for the 2006-2007 school year. In early February, we welcomed our “soon to be” Ninth Grade students who will be joining our school community in the fall. Their success and comfortable transition is very important to us! Graduation is also looming brightly on the horizon, and we encourage seniors to continue to achieve their maximum academic potential. This is the time of the year when college acceptances begin, and we wish the best for all our senior students in their plans for the future.

Recently, Mr. Chuck Giles was chosen Serra’s Teacher of the Year. Staff voted for him to receive this honor due to his teaching excellence in the area of mathematics and his tireless efforts as a coach and mentor to Serra students. He has shown commitment and dedication Serra High School for many years, and we are so pleased to recognize him. Many of our students have also received well-deserved recognition! On January 24th, students and their parents were invited to the Board of Education’s Student Recognition ceremony. Serra students continue to shine both in and out of the classroom!

Many thanks to our parents who contribute hours of service to our clubs, activities and sports teams. We could not do our jobs as teachers, sponsors and coaches without the active parent group that regularly contributes time and support. Our biggest supporter is the Serra Foundation, who gives so much to our school both for athletic and academic programs. Please support Serra by attending the Serra High School Foundation Auction on March 25th at the Town and Country Hotel. See inside for more information!

Finally, as we begin semester two, the entire Serra staff rededicates itself to serving the needs of students. We hope you are continuously encouraging your child to achieve his or her maximum potential. Please know that we are open to your comments, suggestions and questions regarding your child or our school. I wish everyone a great second semester, and let's continue to work together to continue to make Serra the very best it can be.

Best Wishes, and thank you for your continued support!

Donna Somerville, Principal
