December 2007

Happy Holidays!

We have just returned from a restful Thanksgiving break, and winter vacation is right around the corner. Before we’re out for winter vacation, I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and joyous holiday season. Soon everyone will be off enjoying family and friends and hopefully a very restful break.

Fall sports seasons have just come to an end, and our athletic teams experienced a great deal of success. Once again, our Women’s Tennis Team made it to the CIF playoffs. We want to congratulate Naime Bajrami, Devin Smith, Leondra Smith and Estephanie Sunga for making it to the CIF doubles finals. We also want to congratulate and thank Coach Dabney for the excellent work she puts in with theses students. Congratulations also go to Coach Berger, Coach Ward and Serra’s Field Hockey team for yet again making an appearance in the CIF field hockey finals. Lastly, we want to congratulate Coach Richards and Amber Berry for making it to the cross country state finals. Thanks go to all the athletes of the fall season for representing Serra High School with pride and honor. We also would like to recognize that these students maintained academic and citizenship GPAs in order to remain eligible to participate. Great job everyone!

Winter sports for this school year have begun. The coaches have completed their tryouts, and the seasons for Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Soccer, Women’s Water Polo and Wrestling will be underway. We wish these athletes the best of luck and look forward to an exciting winter sports season.

NJROTC again has had a successful beginning to the school year. Recently they swept first place in the Armed, Unarmed and Color Guard at the annual San Diego Veterans Day Parade. At the Regional Air Rifle Competition, they took first place in the standing and kneeling position, second place in the prone position and second place team overall.

Our second grading period for the fall semester ended December 7th. Please keep an eye out for student progress reports to be coming home the following week. If you have any questions regarding your students’ progress in a specific class, please feel free to contact the teacher for clarification, or schedule a conference if needed.

Winter break is scheduled December 24th through January 4th. School will resume January 7, 2007.

Please take this time to enjoy the holidays with your family and friends. On behalf of the staff and students of Serra High School, we wish you the best for a happy holiday season, as well as a happy, prosperous and healthy new year.
