Seasons Greetings Serra Families!
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy holiday
season. The winter break is soon approaching, and the staff and
students will be off enjoying their time with family and friends.
Throughout the year our lives are extremely busy, and we tend to
fall into a routine. Please use this time to take pleasure in the
many things around us that bring joy to our lives, such as the time
we spend with our families. Sit back, relax and reflect upon the
many holidays you have had the pleasure of enjoying with your families,
and look forward to the times that lie ahead.
The fall sports seasons have come to an end and many of our teams
experienced a great deal of success. Several of our teams went to
the playoffs. Our Womens Tennis, Volleyball, and Field Hockey
teams along with our Mens Water Polo and Cross Country teams
all made it to the CIF playoffs. Serras Field Hockey team
finished up extremely well, taking the CIF Division II Championship.
Hats off to the players and coaches for such a fine season and for
representing Serra High School so well! A special thanks to the
athletes for taking the time to represent our school in the sport
of their choice. Our student athletes are not only dedicated to
their sport but must maintain their GPAs and citizenship to be eligible
to participate.
I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight the band.
The band experienced a considerable amount of success this fall
placing high in a number of competitions throughout the county.
Congratulations go to the band members and our instructor Mr. Steve
Rae. The band students are extremely dedicated, giving up weekends
and setting aside much of their personal life in order to be one
of the best bands in the county. Thanks also go to those parents
who volunteer their time in order to support such a great group
of students. The administration is very pleased with the band and
how they have represented Serra. Great Job!
NJROTC is always a stand out for Serra High School. The color guard
has been asked to present the flag at numerous forums, including
the Council of the Great City Schools 50th Anniversary here in San
Diego. Recently the unarmed drill team was showcased on KUSI News
with Rod Luck. We want to thank all the NJROTC students and instructors
for the fine job they continue to do. On December 2nd, Serra High
Schools NJROTC hosted a pre-regional competition and took
first place against schools from all over the state. Thanks to all
who came out to support our students.
Drama is well underway; they have recently completed their first
performance of the year, Butterflies are Free. The students
enjoy performing and Ms. Howell, our drama instructor, does fantastic
work with them. They always enjoy an audience, so please look for
future scheduled performances and come and enjoy a play.
Winter sports have just finished their tryouts and are getting underway.
Mens and Womens Basketball, Soccer, Womens Water
Polo, and Wrestling will be in full swing in the month of January.
Were looking for great things from these students. Please
take some time and come support these fine student athletes.
Our thirteen week grading period will end December 9, so please
watch for those progress reports coming home. If you have any questions
regarding your students progress in a class, please feel free
to contact the teacher for clarification or a conference if needed.
Winter break will occur December 18th through January 1st. School
will resume Tuesday, January 2, 2007. Please keep in mind Tuesdays
are our late start days and classes begin at 9:04 a.m.
Once again, enjoy the holidays with your family and friends. On
behalf of the staff and students of Serra High School, we wish you
the best for a happy holiday season as well as a happy, prosperous,
and healthy new year.
See you in 2007!
